The choice is yours: the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences offers you four specializations: Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Network and Cloud Infrastructure and Data Science. In addition, your timetable can be flexibly arranged according to freely selectable modules. Part-time study offers even more freedom. You can adapt your workload on the Bachelor's degree course in Computer Science at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences to suit your individual needs.

Study structure

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences offers you the greatest possible flexibility. Unlike other universities of applied sciences, at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences you do not study in a distinct full-time or part-time program. The modules are also freely selectable. This allows you to tailor your Bachelor's degree in Computer Science to suit your personal situation and needs.

You will graduate from Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science after completing 180 ECTS credits.

You can tailor your computer science studies at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences to your individual interests from the second semester onwards.

Study for career changers

We believe in you! A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences is possible even if you have little knowledge of computer science. We recommend that you start as a part-time student. This will give you more time for self-study in the first year. After that, you have the option of switching to full-time study at the end of each semester.

Time models

No matter which time model you choose: As a rule, you attend the same modules and graduate with a Bachelor of Science OST. The Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences is designed as a on-site program with a proportion of self-study.

Full-time study

On the full-time Bachelor's degree course in Computer Science, you will generally complete your degree within 6 semesters (30 ECTS/semester). Depending on the modules you choose, you will study four to five days a week in class.

Part-time study on three days (part-time 3 model)

Part-time study the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences allows you to design your Bachelor's degree in Computer Science flexibly. The sample study plans are designed so that you study three days a week. Two days of the week are available for work, childcare obligations, etc. You are also free to flexibly take more or fewer modules and adapt the workload to your individual needs. You complete the part-time degree in computer science after eight semesters.

Good to know: It is possible to switch between part-time and full-time studies at the end of each semester.

Part-time study on two days (part-time 2 model)

Do you already have good prior knowledge of computer science, are you in employment and therefore cannot be present three days a week? If so, the «part-time study on two days» model gives you the opportunity to reduce the attendance time in the «Software Engineering» specialization to two days per week. This leaves you three days a week for your job.

Frequently asked questions about the time models

Which part-time model is right for me?

In the part-time 2 model of the Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, contact studies take place on two days. However, the weekly workload is the same as in the part-time 3 model. This is because there are more lessons on the two days and you have to work through certain recorded lectures independently before the corresponding exercises. You should therefore plan at least one full day at the weekend for your (independent) studies.

The part-time 2 model of the Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences is only suitable for you if all of the following three conditions apply to you:

Your employer does not allow you to be absent for three days to study.
You want or need to complete the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science in eight semesters, not nine or ten.
You do not need any options in your studies.

In all other cases, we recommend the part-time 3 degree course for the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. This can be tailored much more flexibly to your personal situation. For example, you can take fewer modules than specified in the part-time 3 sample study plan and extend your studies to up to 14 semesters.

What is the cost of the different time models?

Students with average grades should expect the following expenses:

Full-time studies = 100% = 960h per semester, spread over 48h during 20 weeks
- Classroom teaching: 14 weeks with 32 hours of classroom teaching each, 16 hours of self-study
- Study and examination time: 6 weeks with 48 hours of self-study each
Part-time studies = 75% = 720h per semester, spread over 36h during 20 weeks
- Classroom teaching TZ3: 14 weeks with 24 hours of classroom teaching each (on three days), 12 hours of self-study
- Classroom teaching TZ2: 14 weeks with 18 hours of classroom teaching each (on two days), 18 hours of self-study
- Learning and examination time: 6 weeks with 32 hours of self-study each

These are approximate figures which may vary in individual semesters (especially the higher semesters) depending on your personal prior knowledge and skills as well as the sample or individual study plan. Examinations and other assessments are designed to be completed on your own responsibility, even if attendance is not usually compulsory.

It is possible to reduce the personal workload per semester accordingly by choosing modules freely. 1 ECTS credit is estimated at 30 hours of work.
