Digitalisation is playing an ever-greater role in everyday life. This trend towards digital services can be seen in particular in the form of communication via social media, the use of digital services such as ticket machines, online travel bookings, and purchases in online shops.

The IAF investigated the use of digital services by older adults in 2017. In addition to research into their attitudes towards and experiences with digital services, the research areas of the IAF in the field of digitalisation also focus on Living Labs, which involve technological and digital products being tested by older adults at home.
