Research project
Alience – Alpine PV Competence
As part of the so-called «Solarexpress» initiative, numerous large-scale photovoltaic systems were planned in the Alps. The harsh conditions in the mountains, the yet scarce knowledge and experience, and the tight deadlines pose challenges for building contractors, engineers and owners. The goal of this project was to support them by collecting all available data, compiling the information, making it accessible in one place, and answering open research questions.
To this end, the PV laboratories at the four universities of applied sciences - BFH, ZHAW, SUPSI, and OST – joined forces and created a website (alpine-pv.ch) for the rapid dissemination of knowledge about Alpine PV systems. In addition to experimental research and simulations, numerous discussions were held with implementation partners and their findings were published, and workshops were organized to promote direct exchange.
