On September 1, 2020, three universities of applied sciences – FHS St.Gallen, HSR Rapperswil and NTB Buchs – will merge to become a single university of applied sciences; education and research will continue at all three locations.
Following the strategy «One school – one brand», on September 1, 2020, the new university will operate under the name «Ost» combined with the descriptor «Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences». The new name signals a new start and a common understanding of performance at the three locations. Ost firmly anchors the university across Eastern Switzerland and Liechtenstein and expresses this concisely and self-confidently.
Ost is based on the collaboration of the Cantons of St. Gallen, Schwyz, Glarus, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden and Thurgau as well as the Principality of Liechtenstein.
As of January 1, 2020, the university bodies appointed on this date will become active. All of the well-established collaboration will continue under the new structure.
OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences contributes substantially to the social and economic development of Eastern Switzerland and beyond. With practice-oriented and scientifically-based educational programs and research at the pulse. Through individualized and multifaceted educational pathways. And as a leader across Switzerland in individual subject areas.
OST considers itself an open space where strong personalities develop and excel through creativity, differentiated thinking and interdisciplinary skills. The competencies students develop are fundamental to a modern, future-oriented society.
