Luma Life – Transfer of current findings from dementia research into AI companions to support people with early-stage dementia and their families in the home environment

Luma Life is developing a platform for voice-first AI companions to support people with early-stage dementia at home. As part of this Innovation cheque project, the team of the Institute for Ageing Research IAF conducts a literature search, which will be translated into an interaction model together with Luma Life, aiming to combine dementia care science with generative AI to provide proactive, personalised assistance and ease the burden on caregivers.

Luma Life aims to develop an evidence-based, dementia-specific platform with personalised, voice-based AI companions that help people with mild to moderate dementia live independently at home while reducing caregiver burden.
As part of this Innocheck project, the IAF is first conducting a literature review. The key communication rules identified will form the empirical basis for the further development of the interaction model for the AI companion Luma Life. After integration, the subjective perceptions of a small sample of users will be collected through observation and interviews.
