TIGA– Transformative Intergenerational Gastronomy in Eldery Care Facilities
TIGA focuses on creative impulses to bring more life to the gastronomy of elder care facilities and fosters innovative meeting places that go beyond traditional dining. The emphasis is on social participation, joy of life, and intergenerational dialogue. Together with residents, professionals, and external partners, new spaces for exchange are created – reaching beyond the local community.
Many dining areas in retirement and care homes are underused and not well connected to the local community. TIGA works with residents, staff, relatives, and neighbours to create new ideas that turn these spaces into open and welcoming meeting places for all ages. This involves not only improving the design of the spaces, but also offering services and activities that encourage social contact, reduce isolation, and make in-house dining more financially sustainable.
In one selected home (Lindenhof in St. Gallen), the new concept will be tested in a pilot phase, carefully observed, and improved together with everyone involved. The results will help develop a model that can be used in other homes. The goal is to build lasting, intergenerational spaces that bring care homes closer to their communities and support lively, ongoing exchange.
