Internet of Things (IoT)
The Internet of Things (IoT) consists of “intelligent” objects that support people in their activities without distracting them or drawing attention. These “intelligent” objects are made up of increasingly small, networked embedded computers equipped with various sensors and actuators. Even today, more devices than people are connected to the Internet. Cisco estimates that the Internet of Things will encompass around 50 billion devices by the year 2020.
We have carried out numerous IoT projects with partners to transform electricity meters, power generators, and impact attenuators into “intelligent” objects. Mathematically, the Internet of Things can be described by the following equation:
