Insights into Research and Global Collaboration
The Ambassador was welcomed by representatives of OST and OST’s partner organisation Solafrica. She was given a comprehensive insight into ongoing activites of GSC@OST and the field of Power-to-X. The program included presentations showcasing projects on global sustainable development and the FOEEN-X research platform, which demonstrates the real-world impact of renewable energy technologies on future energy systems. The platform functions as a living lab where renewable energy is converted into storable fuels such as hydrogen or methanol.
Exploring Partnership Opportunities with Nairobi
The Ambassador initiated the visit after learning about OST through its partnership with Solafrica. She expressed strong interest in a potential partnership with Strathmore University in Nairobi. “We are seeking a collaboration aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals,” said H.E. Fouzia Abass. “This visit marks the beginning of a long-term cooperation.”
The following ideas for collaboration in the field of renewable energies were discussed:
• Development of curricula and leadership training (including digital formats)
• Support for laboratory infrastructure
• Construction of outdoor demonstration plants
• Establishment of hands-on research centers
• Capacity building in renewable energy technologies
• Exchange programs for students and staff
• Promotion of practice-oriented training opportunities
Capacity building in the Global South
OST supports the establishment of centers of excellence in the field of renewable energy technology and water supply through various projects. Together with partners from science, industry and civil society, pilot plants are being built, training programs designed and local specialists trained, among other things. The aim is to strengthen local technological know-how and make renewable energy solutions and water supply security available in countries of the Global South.
