Fees and registration

Admission Deadline

For the spring semester beginning on the 16th  february 2026:

For the fall semester beginning on the 14th of september 2026:

Semester fee for long-term students (per semester): CHF 1,500

Semester fee for all students without Swiss residence (per semester): CHF 1,500

Semester flat rate for students on leave of absence (per semester): CHF 200

Additional costs

CampusCard (if lost): CHF 20

[1] Students who were resident in Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein at the time of obtaining the recognized vocational baccalaureate certificate or equivalent.

[2]  Students who exceed the maximum number of ECTS credits to be credited: Bachelor's max. 210 ECTS, Master's max. 150 ECTS. ECTS credits already credited by another university of applied sciences (according to the cancellation form) will be added to this limit.

[3] Students from abroad who do not hold a Swiss passport and who come to Switzerland to study do not have a legal residence in Switzerland under Swiss law (Art. 23 of the Swiss Civil Code). They pay an additional tuition fee of CHF 500 for the entire duration of their studies in addition to the regular tuition fee (regardless of whether their legal residence is transferred to Switzerland after the start of their studies). Legal residence does not exist if the residence permit was issued for the purpose of studying/training.

Important information about the application process

Registration process

The initial registration for studies at OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences is exclusively online. You submit your application with the electronic payment of the application fee. Only complete applications submitted on time will be considered.

The online application process consists of the following steps:

 

  1. Create a SWITCH edu-ID
  2. Prepare the required documents
  3. Complete the online application
  4. Pay the application fee
  5. Next steps: After you have registered definitively, we will review your application and contact you via email or phone. If you have any questions about the application, please contact the admissions office of the study administration.«

To start the application process, you need a SWITCH edu-ID.

 

The SWITCH edu-ID is the long-lasting digital identity for everyone connected to the Swiss higher education community. This includes students, graduates, researchers, teachers, and university staff. The identification for using services at OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences is gradually being switched to the SWITCH edu-ID.

If you do not yet have a  SWITCH edu-ID , you can register during the application process in three simple steps:

  1. Enter your first name, last name, email address, and a password.
  2. After accepting the terms of use, a user account will be created. You will then receive a confirmation email.
  3. Click on the confirmation link in the email to activate your account.«

«Depending on the study program you are applying for, the following information and documents are required:

Proof of Eligibility for University Admission
This refers to the document that grants students initial access to a Swiss university. Examples include vocational/professional baccalaureate certificates, gymnasium (high school) baccalaureate certificates, etc.

Swiss Matriculation Number

Upon first enrollment at a Swiss university, each person receives a unique matriculation number. This eight-digit identifier (e.g., 15-458-791) is found on a yellow or white label on the original proof of eligibility for university admission.

Swiss Certificate of Deregistration

A certificate of deregistration is issued by Swiss universities upon completion or withdrawal from studies and can be submitted later if not yet available.

Swiss Social Security Number

If you live or work in Switzerland, you can find your Swiss social security number (756…) on your AHV card or your Swiss health insurance card.

Personal Photo as JPG

To create the Campus Card, we require a photo of you in passport quality. The photo must be sharp and high-contrast, with your face clearly visible. The photo should not include other people or objects.

Identity Card, Passport, and Residence Permit

For international applicants, we require a copy of the identity card or passport and, at the latest by the start of studies, a current residence permit.

Payment of the registration fee of CHF 200 is made online via card payment. 

The application for studies can only be submitted once the registration fee has been paid. The registration fee is non-refundable.

The following payment methods are available to you:
PostFinance Card, VISA Card, MasterCard, and TWINT.

After successful payment, your application for the chosen study program will be confirmed by email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check the status of your application and inspect your spam folder.

Registration

Register now for your studies with your Switch edu-ID. Follow the online registration steps and finally send us the signed confirmation and the enclosures by post.

Have the following documents ready for registration:

  • CV and letter of motivation
  • Transcript of Records
  • Grade-Certificate
  • Language certificate
  • ID, passport or residence permit
  • Passport photo (for your personal CampusCard)
  • University entrance qualification (vocational/specialist baccalaureate certificate, apprenticeship certificate, high school baccalaureate certificate, etc.)
  • De-registration and overview of achievements from any previously attended technical college / ETH or university
