08.10.2025

Together with ETH Zurich and industry partners, Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST) is developing a walking robot for future exploration missions on the Moon as part of the «MoonWalker» project. The Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) is supporting the project with 3.1 million Swiss francs.

In the «MoonWalker» project, a research team from ETH Zurich and Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST), along with industry partners Maxon International, Beyond Gravity, and ANYbotics, is developing a walking robot for future exploration missions on the Moon. The robotic system is designed to reach inaccessible areas such as craters and caves, thereby opening new avenues for lunar research.

The research project is supported by a federal contribution of approximately 3.1 million Swiss francs. «MoonWalker» is backed by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research as part of the MARVIS (Multidisciplinary Advanced Research Ventures in Space) funding program. MARVIS aims to optimally prepare Swiss participants for involvement in space programs of the European Space Agency (ESA) and to strengthen Switzerland's position in space research.
