System Simulation
SPF has years of experience in simulation renewable energy systems. We are experts in using the established TRNSYS transient energy system simulation tool and have built our in-house, open-source Python framework «pytrnsys» for defining, simulating and post-processing parametric variation runs on top of TRNSYS. Additionally, we develop our own TRNSYS types for custom component models.
With extensive experience in system simulation across research, testing & certification, and commercial consulting, we bring deep technical expertise to every project. We collaborate with companies of all sizes to support their journey toward sustainable, low-carbon energy solutions, with a particular focus on SMEs.
We have – among others – extensive experience in the following fields:
- Solar thermal: Low and high temperature, concentrating and non-concentrating, …
- Solar heat for industrial processes
- Sensible thermal energy storages: Tank, borehole, pit, …, from peak to seasonal
- Latent thermal energy storages: Ice storages, high temperature PCM, …, daily to seasonal
- Heat pumps: Ground source, air source, water source, thermally driven, …
- District heating: Seasonal thermal storages, anergy networks, …
- Photovoltaics (PV) and sector coupling
- Building and heating system simulations
- Software development in the field of renewable energy systems
- Digital twins
We’ve also been participating in various IEA tasks where we welcome the opportunity to exchange ideas with industry leaders. Recent IEA tasks we’ve been involved in are:
- IEA SHC Task 65: Efficient Solar District Heating Systems
- IEA-ES Task 45: Accelerating the Uptake of Large Thermal Energy Storages
