Advantages of MSE Mechanical Engineering:
- Study with greater depth and a practical focus: On the MSE Mechanical Engineering programme, you will deepen your knowledge far beyond the scope of the Bachelor’s degree. You will engage with analysis, modelling and complex systems, whilst at the same time working on real-world problems from industry and research.
- Gain an internationally recognised qualification: With the Master of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering), you will gain an internationally renowned and recognised qualification that opens up a wide range of career opportunities.
- Be fully prepared for the global workplace: This English-language degree programme is specifically designed to prepare you for working in international teams and for a career in a global environment.
- Benefit from state-of-the-art infrastructure and strong industrial partners: At OST, you will work in modern laboratories equipped with the latest technology and benefit from close links with research institutes and industry partners. Project work and Master’s theses are often carried out in collaboration with companies, helping you to build valuable contacts as you start your career.
- Study on a personalised and flexible basis: Mechanical Engineering brings together various disciplines and allows you to tailor your course to suit your needs. You decide for yourself whether you wish to specialise or develop a broad range of skills.
- Advisor support: During their Master’s programme, students receive individual support from an advisor, a professor in their chosen field. The advisor ensures that the students’ academic goals are achieved through the appropriate choice of modules.
Product innovation and product development
You will turn ideas into innovative products using the latest methods and gain expertise in integrated product development. Your work will include, amongst other things, design, materials, system safety, operational management and life-cycle considerations. Product life-cycle management encompasses the management of the entire life cycle of industrial products, machinery and infrastructure.
Production Technology
This focus lies in plastics processing, metalworking and additive manufacturing. To this end, the centre has access to a state-of-the-art range of machinery – unique in Switzerland – which covers the entire value chain from concept to finished product and is being further developed into a smart factory.
Use of simulation tools
Computer-aided component design is increasingly being used to minimise trial and error. You can specialise in multiphysics and coupled simulations, as well as in the use of simulation tools for the design of manufacturing processes for metals and plastics.
Digitalisation and Industry 4.0
Digitalisation plays a central role in industrial companies and is based on standardised processes and the use of large volumes of data. This data is collected using appropriate sensor technology and converted into useful information for optimising processes. OST’s Smart Factory connects production machinery and systems in a practical way to address areas such as process optimisation, data communication and machine learning.
