PFAS contamination in agricultural soils

Project

The past application of sewage sludge has resulted in PFAS contamination of large areas of agricultural soil. This presents challenges to agriculture, authorities and consumers that have scarcely been encountered before. These persistent chemicals can enter the food chain via soil and forage crops, consequently finding their way into foodstuffs… ...

PFAS in soil washing

Project

Soil washing is currently the only internationally established industrial-scale process for treating large quantities of PFAS-contaminated soil and excavated material. The aim is to separate the contaminants from the gravel and sand, which make up most of the material, and concentrate them as much as possible in the wash water and fine fraction… ...

tireX+ - Reduction of tyre abrasion emissions

Project

During a one-year field trial, UMTEC is investigating and optimizing the separation system developed in the preliminary project for the removal of tire abrasion from road runoff. Due to its space-saving design, the system is particularly well-suited for use in urban areas. To assess its efficiency and cost-effectiveness in practical everyday use,… ...

PFAS in Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA)

Project

Around 700,000 tonnes of incineration residues from municipal waste-to-energy (WTE) plants are deposited in landfills in Switzerland in the form of incinerator bottom ash (IBA) every year. On behalf of a landfill operator, UMTEC is investigating the PFAS contamination of IBA from various WTE plants, as well as the factors influencing the… ...
