IMS Institute of Modelling and Simulation
In a world characterized by growing complexity, IMS helps people make better decisions. With our models, we contribute to understanding systems, investigating relevant scenarios, and identifying optimal solutions.
Our interdisciplinary team of experienced scientists develops explicit—where possible, mathematical—models of the decision-making situation. These models serve either as a “laboratory environment” for evaluating different approaches to solutions together with decision-makers or as a basis for mathematical optimization.
We currently apply our expertise in fields such as automatic duty scheduling in healthcare, healthcare supply planning, logistics optimization on large construction sites, and troubleshooting in public transport. We are also active in the areas of capacity planning, resource dimensioning, and resource deployment planning, to name but a few.
To this end, we use methods such as:
- Data analysis and data science: For obtaining and interpreting relevant data.
- Mathematical modeling and optimization: For creating precise models and finding optimal solutions.
- Discrete event simulation, goods flow simulation, and Monte Carlo simulation: For realistic replication of complex systems.
- Prototyping/app development: For practical implementation and visualization of solutions.
- Requirements engineering and group model building: To determine and coordinate requirements in interdisciplinary teams.
We promise to use the right tool for the job.
