Thermal Networks
Thermal networks play a crucial role in the transition to a renewable energy future and are expected to supply up to one-third of the required heat in Switzerland. The rapid expansion and development of thermal networks present numerous challenges, such as the complete replacement of fossil fuel peak load boilers, the integration of decentralized energy sources, the use of storage for flexibility, and the seasonal storage of low-cost heat from summer for utilization in winter. Another challenge for traditional heating networks is the increasing demand for cooling, which, however, opens up opportunities for combined heating and cooling or anergy networks.
Our expertise lies in the analysis and dynamic simulation of thermal networks, as well as in the integration of various renewable energy sources and storage technologies. We apply these in various research projects or in advising municipalities and energy supply companies.
