Sustainability management

In addition to digitalization, sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic for companies of all sizes. With its expertise, IPM supports SMEs in particular, but also larger companies, in the areas of materiality analysis, corporate social responsibility, ESG reporting and sustainability management.

The topic of sustainable business practices has come to the fore, not least due to legal regulations (Swiss OR and EU CSRD and CSDDD regulations). However, consumer demands in this direction are also pushing more and more companies to systematically process their contribution to climate protection.

The opportunities that arise from the consistent processing of sustainability parameters in all three areas concerned (Environment - Social - Governance, ESG) on the basis of automatically generated data from the company's internal systems are, in addition to simplified reporting, above all the opportunities to actively intervene in the processes in the sense of continuous controlling and to continuously improve the key figures.

Thanks to the many years of experience and specialist expertise of IPM's employees, the valuable and promising combination of digitalization and sustainability management, which is referred to in the literature as “twin transformation”, is successful. Together with our partners, we support companies not only in the conception but also in the operationalization of sustainability management.

Research projects in this area are currently underway. In a first preliminary project, which is funded by the Databooster initiative of Innosuisse, the possibilities of generating key figures directly from an ERP system are being analyzed with the company Abacus.

The aim is to collect basic data from all the systems involved at the various levels of a company, which can then be used for ESG reporting and at the same time as key figures for a continuous improvement process. Suitable AI models can then also be used to facilitate reporting and serve as decision-making aids by evaluating future variants using forecasting models and simulations.

Sustainability management with processes, IoT and AI

Efficient sustainability management requires a clear strategy - and the right use of data. With a structured 4-phase plan, companies can gradually achieve their sustainability goals without getting bogged down by complexity. From the simple use of existing basic data to the optimization of processes and the use of IoT and AI: this is how to achieve data-based and future-proof sustainability management.

The increasing requirements for sustainability reporting pose major challenges for SMEs. The Sustainability Management Navigator offers an innovative solution: together with Abacus and supported by Data-Booster and Innosuisse, work is underway to integrate ESG data into existing ERP systems. The aim is to create sustainability reports in a resource-saving manner and “on the fly”.
