The competence centre «Evidence-based healthcare» (EBHC) promotes evidence-based decision-making in healthcare – practice-oriented and impact-driven.
The centre is part of the Institute of Health Sciences (IHS). It supports healthcare professionals in making informed decisions based on the best available evidence.
We foster the connection of research, practice and patients’ needs. Through evidence syntheses, rapid access to scientific literature and the integration of knowledge into practice, we strengthen competence and improve the quality of healthcare. Our aim is to enable effective, economically efficient, and resource-conserving care that is aligned with the current scientific insights.

EBHC in Teaching and Continuing Professional Education
In teaching and continuing professional education, we are committed to familiarising healthcare professionals with methods of evidence-based practice. We promote evidence-based thinking and acting through seminars on evidence-based practice and by providing guidance in the preparation of evidence syntheses.
Research on methods and meta-research
Research on methods and meta research contribute to improving the quality, transparency and efficiency of research. A key focus of our work is planning, implementing and reporting research on methods and meta-research – with the aim of further developing evidence syntheses and empirical research proposals.
Knowledge platform FIT-Nursing Care
The knowledge platform FIT-Nursing Care provides access to international research knowledge in the field of nursing. Knowledge is quickly available and presented in German. Thereby, FIT-Nursing Care reduces the burden of time-consuming research and reading. It makes possible to stay informed about the latest state of knowledge in nursing.
Evidence synthesis
Evidence syntheses further develop the current state of knowledge. They form the basis for ensuring evidence-based care in practice. A key focus of our work is planning, implementing and reporting evidence syntheses.
Knowledge management at the point of care
Various sources of information are available to clinical practice. However, they are often not integrated into workflows. Our research aims to make specialist and evidence-based knowledge available in a quick and easy way. This means that knowledge is provided in a timely manner and integrated into work processes.
