In September, Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST) launched the interdisciplinary course «Knowledge and Technologies for Sustainable Development in the Global South.» The group began with an introduction to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Following this, participants delved deeper into the topic using creative techniques and the film  «The Crackle of Time,» which documents the construction of an opera village in Burkina Faso by the German artist Christoph Schlingensief.

Partners from Africa, Guatemala, and Nepal

In this course, 24 students and 10 lecturers from six different disciplines come together. Through interdisciplinary exchange, the course aims to promote reflection, learning, and innovation. In the coming weeks, six teams will work on case studies from practice partners in Mozambique, Kenya, Liberia, South Africa, Guatemala, and Nepal. These case studies focus on WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), renewable energy, construction, and health, considering not only technical aspects but also soft factors and social work.

With this course, we aim to prepare the next generation to contribute to global sustainable development and to raise their awareness of the importance of learning from mistakes.
