Curriculum Vitae
Dr Noémie Ott studied electrochemistry, materials science and process engineering at Phelma, Grenoble Institute of Technology, France. She obtained her PhD from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in 2014. In 2014, she received a SNFS early postdoc.mobility fellowship to join Prof. Nick Birbilis’ group at Monash University, Australia, where she investigated the relationship between thermal aging, microstructure, and corrosion behavior of Al-Cu-Li alloys. From 2017 to 2022, she worked as a research scientist in the Laboratory for Joining Technologies and Corrosion at Empa. In September 2022, Noémie joined the “Materials Engineering” group at OST.
Noémie is an established expert in the characterization of corrosion/oxidation processes occurring at the solid/liquid interface of high-performance engineered materials, using metallurgical, electrochemical, and analytical techniques. Her interests lie in the understanding and control of materials behavior exposed to a defined environment. Improving the environmental impact of industrial processes, such as anodizing or electrochemical deposition, remains close to her heart, and she believes strongly in the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. She leads the SGO-SST working group that supports and advocats the implementation of safer, greener, and more efficient electrochemical surface treatments, i.e. reducing hazardous chemicals and energy use without compromising quality.
Beyond her research, Noémie is committed to community engagement and science communication. She serves as Chair of the Young European Federation of Corrosion (YEFC), was elected on the Board of Admistrators of the EFC (2025-2028), and is an Associate Editor for Frontiers for Young Minds.
