Julian is interested in (more than) evidence syntheses, (other) research designs and methods, evidence-based research and practice, and meta-research (research on research).
He joined the Department of Health at the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences in 2017 and mainly worked on the AGE-NT and AGE-INT project, both SERI-funded and collaborative projects. His teaching and research topics are evidence synthesis and meta-research. He did his doctoral studies with a focus on dementia care research at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. He has been a Professor in Evidence Synthesis at the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences since 2025.
Julian co-developed RefHunter, a platform for systematic literature search, and the TARCiS statement that provides guidance on terminology, application, and reporting of citation searching. He is a core team member of the Library of Guidance for Health Scientists (LIGHTS) and the STandards for the development REseArch Methods guidance (STREAM) initiative and an advisory board member of the Evidence Synthesis Taxonomy Initiative.
He is also a research fellow at the University of Basel and University Hospital Basel (Pragmatic Evidence Lab at the Research Center for Clinical Neuroimmunology and Neuroscience) where he is mainly working on evidence syntheses, meta-research, and methods research in medicine and health sciences.
