This paper focuses on the measurment based analysis of thermal losses in a parabolic trough collector field of 627 m2 aperture area providing process heat for a Swiss dairy at 120 °C . Firstly, losses due to thermal capacity below operating temperature are analysed by studying transient operation intervals. Secondly, thermal losses of the piping system during operation are discussed. Both losses are further compared to total daily and monthly heat gains.
