EPS QoS Enforcement on Layer 3 with DiffServ

Real time services have to be provided with an appropriate QoS to ensure the value to the end users. 3GPP introduced the Policy and Charging Control (PCC) framework within Release 8, which allows, amongst charging related issues, to apply QoS dynamically. This paper provides an overview of the QoS parameters and mechanisms of the transport layer, specified within the Evolved Packet System (EPS) and proposes a solution on how the EPS QoS can be established on the IP layer with Differentiated Services (DiffServ) considering the two possible variants of mobility protocols on the S5/S8 interface, the GPRS Tunnelling Protocol (GTP) and the Proxy Mobile IP (PMIP) protocol.
